Most In-Demand Jobs: According to Randstad Canada’s 2022 annual career forecast, COVID-19 is not the only factor influencing employer preferences when hiring new employees.

The HR services company says economic pressures, rising customer preferences, competitive markets and regulatory requirements have also forced companies to become more efficient and reevaluate their business models.

“Again this year, we expect job seekers to be spoiled for choice if they have the skills sought by employers,” Patrick Polin, group president at Randstad Canada, said in a press release.

Randstad says skills including budgeting, accounting, and quality control have become “of paramount importance” for employers trying to run a successful business during the pandemic.

According to the report, the “most in-demand professionals” for 2022 are customer service representatives, salespeople, and scheduling specialists, in addition to budget and accounting positions.

While retail workers and cashiers were in high demand in 2021, customer service representatives are “now more important than ever” for businesses, according to the report.

With consumers increasingly focused on online shopping, Randstad said companies have noticed that even just one bad experience with one brand will send shoppers elsewhere.

“ That’s why roles like customer service representative and administrative assistant have come to the fore.”

Randstad noted that a new role has been added to this year’s list of scheduling specialists due to the growing need for businesses to address safety protocols amid COVID-19.

To ensure a work environment is safe, the report said more employers are using “intelligent scheduling software” to comply with public health measures and still be able to cater to consumers.

“Initially, organizations were focused on making sure their workforce had the technology and security they needed to stay operational, now driving sales, providing best-in-class customer service, providing support for their employees. The focus is focused on the long-term need to provide a safe environment for customers and customers to more effectively manage their budgets,” Palin said in the release.

“From an employee perspective, this provides Canadians with an opportunity to level up, refine and rearrange skills they may have used in previous roles,” he said. And the latest data shows that employees may already be taking advantage of it.

According to the latest India job search survey, the share of Canadians actively looking for work rose in December, with more job search activity being reported among job seekers and not.

Of the Canadians surveyed, 34 percent said they were actively looking for work, which in fact economist Brandon Barnard called a “statistically significant increase” from the 28 percent reported in November.

In addition, Indeed’s survey found that both job-seekers and unemployed job-seekers were more confident in their skills of finding work early in December than in November.

Barnard said, “The question for the coming months is whether job search activity and confidence can remain strong through the near-term economic hit from the growth of new COVID-19 cases that began at the end of the year.
